I haven’t heard this song in a long, long time until this past weekend. The imagery of these words still fill my head:

“Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade, To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Tho stretched from sky to sky.”

Our friends Linton and Eileen from Cork, Ireland were in town visiting, and my buddy Michael was gracious enough to take Linton for his first general aviation (i.e. “small plane”) flight. I was lucky enough to tag along.

The weather was pretty crummy, but we got just enough visability to tool around for a bit. Linton was able to try his hand at the controls. Michael is a great host, being very mindful of his ‘first-timers’ and very educational too.

Drudge Story

Helen Thomas is mad. She’s mad because the President of the United States didn’t pick her when she raised her hand.

It reminds me of grade school.

Their are two very interesting points raised in her quotes. First, she seems to elevate her importance to the level of our nation’s biggest enemy:

What arrogance to think yourself as much if not moreso deserving the President’s attention than the world’s most predominate terrorist vowed to destroy our country.

Second, and probably most shocking, is that she considers the White House briefing room “her turf”:

"He came on to my turf. I'll bet the next press conference will be in Room 450 of the EEOB," a theater-style room in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where she would not be in the front row.

What gives her the right to claim any type of ownership status to any part of the White House? She’s just a reporter.

A reporter who is trying to make herself the story.

When Martin Luther King was saying, “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today”, I wonder if his dream included a “chocolate New Orleans”?

Imagine the cries of “Racist!” and “Bigotry!” had a white mayor said anything remotely equivilent about a predominately caucasion community.

As a white man, I will never understand the double standard that exisits when dealing with race issues. When I read MLK’s speech, I understand him. I agree with him. But it seems to me that the so-called leaders who claim to be carrying the mantle of Martin Luther King bear very little resemblance to the honorable reverand and his dream.

Oh, but I’m white. To speak of such inconsistances would earn me the “racist” label in some people’s eyes. There are areas in which I am not allowed to tread in this free society, not even on an intellectual level.

Of all the different breeds of dogs in the world, why on EARTH would Senator Kennedy pick a Portuguese Water Dog?!?
